New EU Ambassador to Armenia appointed
On 13 September, the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan handed over diplomatic credentials to the newly appointed head of EU delegation to Armenia Andrea Wiktorin, reported aysor.am.
The minister also briefed Wiktorin on the policies adopted by the current government, spoke of the reforms and stressed the importance of the EU’s assistance in their implementation. During the meeting the interlocutors discussed a wide-range of issues on the Armenia-EU partnership agenda. In particular, they referred to the expected high-level reciprocal visits, the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and the road map.
Andrea Joana-Maria Wiktorin is a German diplomat who started her diplomatic career in the German Foreign Ministry in 1989. She worked at the German embassy in Estonia until 1995. In the 1997-2000 period she worked at the German embassy in Netherlands and afterwards she became the permanent representative of the German ambassador in Belarus (2000-2003). From 2003 to 2007, Wiktorin was the deputy Head of the Political Unit at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From 2007 to 2009, Wiktorin was appointed to the position of the German Ambassador to Armenia. From 2012 to 2015, she was the German ambassador to Latvia and afterwards she began her career as an EU diplomat in Belarus.
