Nikol Pashinyan: Baku Wants to Spark New War

| News, Politics, Armenia

On January 26, commenting on the blocking of the Lachin corridor during a meeting of the republic's government, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Azerbaijan seeks to provoke a new war in the region.

"To expel the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh from their homes is not the only goal of Azerbaijan. With these provocative actions, Azerbaijan seeks to undermine the peace agenda and the peace process, as well as to spark a new war in the region," Pashinyan added.

According to him, Armenian society is going through a very emotional period as a result of the humanitarian crisis caused by the closure of the Lachin corridor. "Meanwhile, it is necessary to maintain restraint and exclude rhetoric and actions that are contrary to the peace agenda, especially on the part of representatives of the Armenian authorities," he added.

"We continue to be consistent in advancing the peace agenda, and no provocations should lead us astray," Pashinyan stressed. "The authorities, opposition, society, and the Armenian diaspora abroad should continue to work together to draw the attention of the international community to the topic of violations of the rights of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan is trying to convince the world community that the Lachin corridor is not closed and gas and electricity supplies are not cut off. The Armenian side proves the opposite," the Prime Minister noted.

"I believe the best way to resolve this contradiction would be to send an international fact-finding team to the Lachin corridor and Nagorno-Karabakh. And we must consistently work in this direction. In general, a peaceful solution to all issues in the region has no alternative," the Armenian leader concluded, stressing that this idea will guide Yerevan despite all the difficulties.
