Nikol Pashinyan Blames Russia for Not Ensuring Safety of Karabakh Armenians; Speaks of Coup Attempt in Yerevan
On September 24, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the possibility of Armenian residents leaving Karabakh is increasing and blamed Russia for not ensuring the safety of Armenians.
"If adequate conditions are not created for Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians to live in their homes and there are no effective defense mechanisms against ethnic cleansing, it is more likely that Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians will see leaving their homeland as the only way to protect their lives and identity," Pashinyan said. "If this happens, the responsibility will fall on the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan, which is implementing the policy of ethnic cleansing," the Prime Minister added.
In his speech, Nikol Pashinyan said that the Armenian-Russian strategic alliance is not enough to ensure Armenia's external security. "The government will receive our brothers and sisters from Nagorno-Karabakh with full care," the Armenian Prime Minister stressed.
Without naming names, Pashinyan warned that some forces were trying to stage a coup against him and accused the Russian media of engaging in an information war against him. "Some of our partners are making more and more efforts to expose our security vulnerabilities, thus endangering not only our external, but also our internal security and stability," Pashinyan noted. The Prime Minister added that for this reason the external and internal security instruments of the Republic of Armenia must be transformed, supplemented and enriched.
