Nikol Pashinyan Outraged After Electricity Cut Off in Cabinet Meeting

| News, Politics, Armenia

During the regular session of the Armenian government on November 23, the electricity was briefly cut off in the Cabinet building.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was angered and addressed Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan with a rebuke. "This is what I told you about, Mr. Sanosyan. Today, I had a conversation on this subject with the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister. In the Republic of Armenia, we constantly raise the issue of the quality of providing electricity. How many more instructions should I give? You cannot give instructions about the same thing continuously for ten years. The electricity supply in our country is of poor quality, including this building. In the morning, I informed the government's chief of staff that the lights are constantly blinking on the premises, and it is not surprising that the electricity is cut off," Pashinyan added.

Children, who were invited to mark the anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, were present during the government meeting when the head of the government expressed his displeasure.

Moreover, Nikol Pashinyan expressed dissatisfaction with the delay of court proceedings in anti-corruption cases. He noted that it is fundamentally important for the executive branch of the government that the relevant judicial processes be legally justified and in compliance with the law.

"During this time, we have done a lot of work, as well as carried out significant reforms in the judicial system, including, I remind you, the formation of the Anti-Corruption Committee, increased salaries in the Investigative Committee, General Prosecutor's Office, new judicial capacities have been formed in the judicial system, but when we analyze all this, we see that there are processes, but no results. We have many well-known corruption cases that are in the judicial process, and I have the impression that these cases can last 25 years. This is a big problem," the Prime Minister emphasized.

According to him, people may think that the current government is involved in some backroom deals, which is the reason for all these delays. "I would like to state that we are not involved in any deals. We consider institutionalization of the state very important, and we consider it important that everything happens according to legal procedures. But we cannot but express our displeasure that there are cases that it is incomprehensible how things could have been delayed like this," he said.
