Nikol Pashinyan: "Yerevan is Not Moscow's Ally in Russo-Ukrainian War"

| News, Politics, Armenia

On the evening of June 1, an interview with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was published on CNN, filmed during his visit to Prague in early May.

Referring to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the head of the Armenian government said that Yerevan is not an ally of Moscow in this matter. "We are not an ally of Russia in the war with Ukraine. And our feeling from this war, from this conflict, is anxiety because it directly affects all our relationships. In the West, they pay attention that we are an ally of Russia, but in Russia, they see that we are not their ally in the war in Ukraine, and it turns out that we are not an ally to anyone in this situation, which means that we are vulnerable. That being said, it seems that there is an option to tack in all these clashes, but the truth is that the more complicated the situation, the narrower the opportunities become to tack. We maneuver not because we have no opinion about the situation, but for the reason I mentioned a minute ago: unfortunately, there are so many of our worries that they do not allow us to be more involved in solving other worries," Pashinyan added.

Responding to the statement of the journalist on the American TV channel that "Armenia is in a very difficult political situation" and the question of "how the European Union can really help resolve the difficult issue of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh," Pashinyan pointed out that, we Armenia is not in a difficult geopolitical situation but in a difficult geographical position.

"That is, the complexity is not in geopolitics; the complexity is in geography because no matter how geopolitics changes in the world, our geography will not change from this. And for this reason, especially now, we offer and have offered our people the following political vision: the main goal of our foreign policy should be normal relations, first of all, with our immediate neighbors. No matter how difficult it may sound even to the ear because history has brought with it a lot of difficulties and negative legacies," the prime minister emphasized.

After a day, Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary of the Russian President, said that Moscow takes note and takes into account Yerevan's position that Armenia is not Russia's ally in the war in Ukraine.

"We take note of it; this is an important statement. We know that there are certain nuances in Armenia's approaches to the conflict around Ukraine; we take them into account, we know them," the Kremlin Spokesman said.
