Opposition in Abkhazia Demands Transparency in Cottage Transfer Agreement with Russia
The de facto Foreign Ministry of occupied Abkhazia has reportedly received a letter of protest from the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding the ratification of an agreement on the transfer of Bichvinta cottages to Russia.
Journalist Izida Chania noted that the Abkhazian Foreign Ministry received the protest letter three days earlier. However, the ministry did not provide details about the changes in the law, which now prohibit the transfer of state cottages to third parties. Chania noted the absence of this information on official platforms such as the ministry's website or Telegram.
The opposition factions in occupied Abkhazia have also confirmed these reports. They claim to be in possession of a note from the Russian Foreign Ministry urging the Abkhazian side to clarify its position on compliance with the provisions of the agreement or the legislative acts prior to its ratification.
The opposition's statement calls for transparency in dealing with the issue, insisting that any response from the Abkhazian side should involve parliamentary committees and include relevant public and political organizations. Failure to do so, they argue, would make [de facto] President Aslan Bzhania and Foreign Minister Inal Ardzinba personally responsible.
It should be noted that on December 27, the so-called parliament of occupied Abkhazia ratified the agreement on the transfer of the Bichvinta country houses to Russia.
