Reborn Armenia Party Leaves "Armenia" Opposition Bloc
On November 29, the Reborn Armenia Party, which, together with the Dashnaktsutyun Party, is part of the Armenia opposition bloc (the second largest parliamentary faction), ceased its activities in the Armenian Parliament.
Pointing out that parliamentary activity and MP mandates are not an end in themselves, the leadership of Reborn Armenia stated: "All the grounds that forced us to boycott the meetings of the National Assembly a few months ago remain relevant today."
Three of the party's four parliamentarians, including the chairman of Reborn Armenia, Vahe Hakobyan, and vice chairmen Hripsime Stambulyan and Elena Kirakosyan, applied for renunciation of their mandates. Zemfira Mirzoyeva, who entered the parliament from the Armenia bloc with a quota for national minorities (the Assyrian community of the republic), will continue her activities, temporarily suspending her membership in the party at her own request.
According to the decision of the council of Reborn Armenia, those members of this political association who are represented on the electoral list of the "Armenia" bloc are free to decide whether to take a mandate or not when it is their turn to receive a deputy mandate. If the mandate is accepted, these individuals must leave the party. "Reborn Armenia will continue its activities in the opposition field within the declared values and policies of the party," the statement said.
"We respect the decision of our partners. We are sure that much remains to be done continuously and jointly in this political struggle," noted the leading opposition political association, led by ex-President Robert Kocharyan.
