Russia Abolishes Visa and Flight Bans for Georgian Citizens

| News, Politics, Georgia

According to the decree issued by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, the visa regime with Georgia will be canceled from May 15, 2023. Citizens of Georgia will be able to enter Russia without a visa for up to 90 days.

In addition, the ban on flights to Georgia will be lifted from May 15. Putin signed the relevant decree today. Direct flights between Russia and Georgia were stopped in 2019. Moscow made this decision unilaterally after the ongoing protests against Russia in Tbilisi.

According to the assessment of Ilia Darchiashvili, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, from a humanitarian perspective, Moscow's decision to cancel the visa regime and resume flights with Georgia would be welcomed by any responsible government.

According to Darchiashvili, more than a million of Georgian citizens live in the Russian Federation and have very close ties with people, relatives, and friends living in Georgia. The minister argues that Kremlin's decision will make their living conditions easier and enable them to communicate, travel and interact with each other.
