Russia and Armenia Agree on Nuclear Power Plant Operation Extension
The Rusatom Service JSC, a part of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, and the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant CJSC entered into a contract to prolong the operational period of Armenia’s nuclear plant until 2036.
The agreement to extend the Armenian nuclear power plant's operational period was achieved during the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation meeting between Russia and Armenia.
Armenia’s nuclear plant operation is a critical component of the country’s energy independence. This nuclear facility plays a vital role, contributing approximately 30 percent to the overall electricity production in Armenia.
It's noted that the current operational period of the Armenian nuclear power plant is scheduled to end in 2026.
