Russia is Not Armenia's Enemy, Says Russian Foreign Ministry
On the margins of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok on September 13, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that Russia is not Armenia's enemy and will never become one.
"It was not Russia that recognized Azerbaijan's rights to Nagorno-Karabakh, it was the Armenian leadership that did it. It is up to them, the people of Armenia, to decide how to treat it. But we should not put the blame and responsibility for the decisions made in Yerevan on Russia. One should not look for an enemy in Russia. Russia has never been Armenia's enemy and never will be. It never will be," the official emphasized.
Zakharova pointed out that Moscow's harsh reaction to Yerevan's harsh statements about Russia is caused by a substitution of notions. "We paid attention not even so much to the tone and insulting things of personal nature, the rudeness that was there - we didn't pay attention to that. But to the fact that they were based on untruths, inaccuracies, or an attempt to substitute facts for their reflection. That's what caused our reaction, that's why the [Armenian] ambassador was invited to the [Russian] Foreign Ministry," Zakharova said.
According to her, if they react to daily boorish appeals to us, they can no longer work but only write notes of protest. "Secondly, it is not our style to respond to this rudeness. It's just not our method. We are above this daily bickering, except when it comes to substituting concepts of fundamental importance," she explained. In addition, Zakharova warned of the danger of the temptation to find guilty parties when something does not work or goes wrong. "Because it can lead to catastrophic consequences. This is dangerous for Armenia," she concluded.
