Tension in Armenian Parliament over Nagorno-Karabakh Issue
On April 20, a statement by one of the opposition MPs from the tribune caused tension in the Armenian Parliament.
During the discussion of the government's development program, Taguhi Tovmasyan, an MP of the "I Have Honor" faction affiliated with former President Serzh Sargsyan, said that he is holding a political protest and will not leave the parliament: "I will not allow you to lie again from the country's number one tribune and say that Nagorno-Karabakh to question the Armenians or the history of the Armenian people as a whole. That's enough, be sober and know the extent of your responsibility."
Following this statement, Alen Simonyan, the Speaker of the Parliament, ordered the broadcast to be stopped and called security officers to the hall. The security service took Tovmasyan and other opposition MPs out of the hall.
Earlier, Pashinyan said, "11 kilometers of the border passes through our Tegh village. We consider 5 kilometers of it controversial."
