Tensions Continue Between Armenia and Azerbaijan Along Nagorno-Karabakh

On March 7, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that after the incident that occurred on the Khankendi-Khalfali-Turshsu dirt road on March 5, the use of this road by the Armenian armed forces and illegal Armenian armed detachments accompanied by the Russian peacekeeping forces for conducting military transportation again was recorded by technical surveillance equipment of the Azerbaijan Army Units stationed in this direction.

"During the day on March 7, the movement of military vehicles of the Armenian armed forces and illegal Armenian armed detachments in convoys from the mentioned road was provided under the accomplishment of the Russian peacekeeping forces. By technical surveillance means it was once again recorded that the road was used for military transportation despite the refutation and hypocrisy of Armenia," the information added.

The Ministry stated, "The implementation of military transportation accompanied by the Russian peacekeeping forces, which is a gross violation of the provisions of the Trilateral Statement, is unacceptable and must be stopped immediately.

"We reiterate that providing weapons, ammunition, mines, supplies, and other military equipment by Armenia to illegal Armenian armed detachments in the Karabakh economic region of Azerbaijan, as well as transporting military personnel to combat positions and their rotating using this method, is a gross violation of Azerbaijan's sovereignty, the provisions of the Trilateral Statement and the continuation of the policy of military aggression against Azerbaijan. If such actions are not immediately and permanently stopped, the Azerbaijani side will have to take the necessary measures to suppress the actions of Armenia and illegal Armenian military formations in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan," the statement stressed.

On the same day, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported that, unfortunately, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to show a biased and unfounded position when commenting on the provocations in the region. "Instead of calling for the withdrawal of illegal Armenian armed forces from the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan by the norms and principles of international law, the four resolutions of the UN Security Council of which it is a member, and the Tripartite Declaration, the French side presented the illegal Armenian armed forces as 'police' and, indirectly, their presence in the territories of Azerbaijan justifying provocations is unacceptable," it added. "The French side should understand that the Armenian side's attempt to continue the illegal military activity by using alternative routes under the pretext of protests on the road to Lachin is a gross violation of international obligations," the report said.

On March 8, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported that the information is entirely false, does not have and cannot have any factual basis, and does not correspond to reality.

"Azerbaijan is trying to divert the international community's attention with such 'noisy revelations,'" the information added. "To divert the attention of the international community from these obvious facts, Azerbaijan has adopted a practice of disinformation and increasing tension, trying to create false information bases for launching new aggression not only against Nagorno-Karabakh but also against the Republic of Armenia. Moreover, to 'justify' this policy, Azerbaijan continues its policy of presenting Armenia in the West as extremely pro-Russian, and in Russia as extremely pro-Western," it said.

One day ago, the Armenian Defense Ministry also revealed similar information. "The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia announces that the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan has spread disinformation, claiming that on March 7, the military equipment column of the Armenian Armed Forces accompanied by the Russian peacekeepers passed along the Stepanakert-Ghaibalishen-Lisagor road," the report added. "The claims of the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan regarding the transfer of the Armenian Armed Forces' personnel and organization of combat shift are also false," it said.
