Three Azerbaijani Citizens Die As Result of Mine Explosion

On April 28, 3 civilians died as a result of a mine explosion in the Talish village of Tartar region of Azerbaijan.

According to the Press Service of the General Prosecutor's Office, during the preliminary investigation, the persons who died as a result of the explosion were "RPS Energy Ltd." employees of the company were identified as Sakhavat Gozalov, Nadir Yusifov, and Farid Sadiyev. A criminal case has been opened in the Prosecutor's Office.

The General Prosecutor's Office reported that since the cessation of hostilities by the agreement of November 10, 2020, up to now, as a result of the explosion of mines planted by the Armenian armed forces, 54 people have been killed and 244 people have received various degrees of physical injuries.

Reactions

The US Embassy in Azerbaijan expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the mine explosion through the local media. "We offer our condolences to the families and relatives of 3 people who cooperated with the Demining Agency of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) on April 28, as well as other Azerbaijanis who were killed and injured as a result of mine explosions. We are working closely with ANAMA and are concerned that landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to kill and injure civilians in de-occupied Azerbaijan areas and impede economic development and the safe return of IDPs to their homelands. As the Secretary of State emphasized, the United States favors conducting peace talks and ensuring peace in the entire region," the Embassy added.

Ambassador Peter Michalko, the head of the European Union (EU) Delegation in Azerbaijan, wrote on his Twitter account that he received the news of the death of three people in a mine explosion in Tartar with great sadness. "We received the news of the tragic death of 3 people as a result of a mine explosion in Tartar yesterday. I offer my deepest condolences to the families of those who died. The European Union will continue supporting Azerbaijan in demining efforts," the official added.

Fergus Auld, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Azerbaijan, also expressed his condolences on the death of three Azerbaijanis in the Tartar district. "I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of three people as a result of the explosion of an anti-tank mine in the Tartar region. I offer my condolences to the relatives of the deceased," the Ambassador wrote on his Twitter account.
