
Turkish Colonel-General Appointed Advisor to Azerbaijani Defense Minister

On December 10, Colonel-General Bakhtiyar Ersay, the commander of the Special Command Group of the Turkish Armed Forces in Azerbaijan, was appointed an advisor to Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov, the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan.
He spoke at a colloquium meeting of the Ministry of Defense as an adviser to Zakir Hasanov. Bakhtiyar Ersay talked about the work done in adapting the Azerbaijan Army to the Turkish model and the new achievements achieved as a result of the reforms.
Notably, Colonel Bakhtiyar Ersay was arrested during the Sledgehammer events in Turkey and sentenced to 16 years in prison. The colonel, who was released in the 31st month of his imprisonment, received the rank of general and was appointed brigade commander shortly after. Colonel Bakhtiyar Ersay received the rank of major general after the coup attempt by FETÖ (the Islamist fraternal movement led by Fethullah Gülen) on June 15, 2015. Two weeks after the July 16 coup, Haggari-Chukuja was appointed the commander of the 2nd Border Brigade. One of his first tasks was to harm the PKK group gathered in the Kaletepe region and carry out attack plans. General Ersay's last position in Turkey was as the deputy of the Deputy Ground Forces for operational issues.
