
US Ambassador to Georgia: "Georgia Should Distance Itself from Russia"

Kelly Degnan, the US Ambassador to Georgia, said that for the last 6-8 months, a campaign in Georgia has been trying to undermine a strong partnership between Georgia and the West, between Georgia and the US, between Georgia and the European Union.
According to her, this contradicts the clear choice of the Georgian people, who have repeatedly chosen the way to Europe. "People want a European future; people want a strong democracy; people want a successful and diversified economy that is independent of Russia," Degnan said.
According to Degnan, in previous years, Georgia has achieved real progress in terms of its distance from Russia. "This impulse should continue," said the US Ambassador. According to Degnan, Georgia has no reason to depend on Russia in matters of trade, security, or anything else. "We all need good friends, and I think that those who are trying to undermine the strong friendship of Georgia with the United States, the European Union, and many other countries should hear from the Georgian people that this is unacceptable," the US Ambassador to Georgia added.
