Zourabichvili Condemns Georgian Dream's Deference to Russia; Garibashvili Criticizes United National Movement and Blames Ukraine
Zourabichvili's remarks
On February 9, Georgian President Salomé Zourabichvili accused the Georgian Dream (GD) party of accepting a defeatist narrative that is consistent with Russia's propaganda, declaring that "Our defeatism is in line solely with Russian narratives and echoes only Russian propaganda."
The President stated, "I cannot explain, comprehend, or share this." She said that everyone could appreciate the particular concern voiced by the leadership of a country with occupied lands. "But caution has never precluded either dignity or solidarity, especially for us and our nation," Zourabichvili concluded.
Garibashvili's comments
In a press conference on February 11, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated that the present administration had avoided the greatest risk. The Prime Minister maintained that, sadly, attempts are still being made to transfer the Ukrainian war to our country despite Western allies' repeated denials that they ever attempted to draw Georgia into the conflict. "Asserting that sending ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili to Georgia and a multitude of current provocations fulfilled this objective. We have heard clear declarations from the Ukrainian authorities that their goal is to launch the second front," PM Garibashvili added.
The Prime Minister expressed his hope that the friendly Ukrainian people will soon see an end to the conflict and reclaim their lost territory. He said, "Since the conflict started, 20% of Ukrainian land has been taken, tens of thousands of people have perished, and the nation has lost hundreds of billions of USD. Both sides have sustained significant military losses, damage to civilian infrastructure, and deaths of civilians and children. Nothing will repair this harm, this loss, or this suffering. It is alarming that nothing is being done to end the conflict and resume talks."
Moreover, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that Ukraine does not stop trying to draw its country into an armed conflict with Russia.
Also, Prime Minister Garibashvili criticized the United National Movement for conducting protests in support of former President Mikheil Saakashvili, claiming that this radical-extremist party has evolved into a funny organization. "All of its eager efforts prove that it is a totally bankrupt, delegitimized, and outcast radical movement," the diplomat emphasized. The Prime Minister claimed that neither the party's rallies nor its meaningless remarks attracted him. "The most important thing for us to accomplish is to serve our nation, our people, and fulfill its demands," he concluded.
