Unemployment in Ingushetia six times higher than the average level in Russia

According to the results of the first quarter of 2022, the North Caucasus Federal District has the worst unemployment rate. The country’s average rate of unemployment is 4.4% and the Caucasus has a rate of 11.6%, reported the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia.

The worst situation is in Ingushetia where the unemployment rate is 29.3%, and since the end of the 2021 this figure has slightly decreased, in December it reached 30%. North Ossetia (14.9%), Dagestan (14.8%), Karachay-Cherkessia (11.5%) and Chechnya (11.1%) follow.

According to a study based on data from the Ministry of Labour, as of the end of the quarter, 1.1 million unemployed people were officially registered in Russia, almost half of them receive benefits. At the same time, unemployment rose by three percentage points in March alone - in January and February it remained at the same level of 4.1%.

Ingushetia became the region with the highest food inflation

The rise in food prices in Ingushetia in the first quarter of this year amounted to 17.8%. This is the worst figure among all regions of the country (including Crimea and Sevastopol annexed by Russia). The top five regions with the highest food inflation also included Dagestan, Chechnya, and Karachay-Cherkessia.

In addition, according to the research, Ingushetia for the same period was in third place among the regions in terms of general inflation in the consumer market (12.8%) and in second place in terms of growth in the consumer price index, which amounted to 10.8%.

On average in Russia, inflation in the consumer market and food inflation for the first quarter amounted to 10%, while the consumer price index rose by 7.9%
