Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia in Dushanbe

On May 12th, a meeting was held between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia (Ararat Mirozyan), Russia (Sergey Lavrov) and Azerbaijan (Jeyhun Bayramov), the Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

The process of implementation of the commitments undertaken within the Trilateral Statements of November 9th, 2020, January 11th, 2021, and November 26th, 2021, was discussed. The sides exchanged views on the unblocking of regional communications and economic ties, the establishment of the commission on delimitation and border security, and the agreement on the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Minister Mirzoyan reaffirmed the position of the Armenian side on the guarantee of security, rights, and freedoms of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh within the framework of the conflict comprehensive settlement.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia also stressed the importance of a speedy settlement of the humanitarian issues resulting from the 44-day war, including the need for the immediate repatriation of the Armenian prisoners of war.

Sergey Lavrov met with Mirzoyan and Bayramov tête-à-tête in Dushanbe

On May 12th, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Dushanbe, the Tajikistani capital, to participate in the session of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers, met with Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov, Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.

The interlocutors commended the results and the agreements reached between the leaders of the two countries following the official visit of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to Russia on April 19th-20th. The sides referred to the process of implementation of the commitments undertaken by the Trilateral Statements of November 9th, 2020, January 11th, 2021, and November 26th, 2021. Issues related to the formation of the commission on demarcation and border security between Armenia and Azerbaijan were discussed. The need for unblocking the economic and transport communications in the region was highlighted.

Mirzoyan presented Armenia's position on the steps undertaken to establish regional peace and stability and the settlement process with Azerbaijan.

On the meeting with Bayramov, the Ministers discussed the development of relations between the two countries in various areas. Exchanging views on the current situation in the region, the sides reiterated the importance of full implementation of the trilateral statements signed to ensure peace and security. They noted the importance of taking steps to normalise relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The sides also exchanged views on issues on the regional and international security agenda.
