Tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh continue to increase
On 13 June, an Armenian soldier, Artyom Khachatryan, was shot dead in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to Armenian sources, the soldier was killed by the Azerbaijani army. Four days earlier, on June 9, an Azerbaijani soldier, Elshan Khalilov, was killed by Armenian units, in what was supposed to be a personal "revenge act" ordered by Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan for the killing of the Armenian soldier Sipan Melkonyan on June 1. Melkonyan was shot dead on the cease-fire line on May 30, two days after the killing of Omarov Agil Akif, an officer of the Azerbaijani army. Azerbaijan claims that the officer was shot dead by Armenian snipers, while Armenia denies any involvement.
In addition, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense spread the information about the alleged attempt by the Armenian army on June 12 to shoot an Azerbaijani military aircraft during a training run via a ground-to-air missile. The Russian ground-to-air guided missile system "OSA" was supposedly used. As evidence of this, the Ministry of Defense presented appropriate drone video footage. The Armenian armed forces deny this claim.
However, Armenian Defense Secretary David Tonoyan confirmed that numerous troops of the specialized units had been gathered on both sides of the front.
