Armenia Strengthens Cooperation with IMF and Germany in Pursuit of Economic and Democratic Reforms

Meeting with the head of the International Monetary Fund mission in Armenia

On September 19, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Iva Petrova, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission in Armenia. Pashinyan underscored the importance of cooperation with the IMF for fostering economic development and stability in the country. During the discussion, the two addressed Armenia's budgetary, monetary, and currency policies, as well as tax policy and administration. 

Iva Petrova highlighted the progress of reforms in Armenia's financial sector, the improvement of the investment environment, and other initiatives aimed at maintaining economic activity. The Prime Minister emphasized that maintaining macroeconomic stability and achieving long-term economic development are priorities for the Armenian government and assured that steps and reforms in this direction will continue consistently.

Meeting with the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the German Bundestag

Later that day, Prime Minister Pashinyan also received Michael Roth, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the German Bundestag. Pashinyan welcomed Roth’s visit to Armenia and emphasized the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation with Germany. He noted that the continuous development of economic ties with Germany is crucial, adding that bilateral relations have been dynamic in recent years.

Michael Roth acknowledged the active and close cooperation with Armenian parliamentary colleagues, emphasizing that this cooperation also extends to international platforms. The two leaders discussed Armenia-European Union relations and the progress of democratic reforms in Armenia. Pashinyan stressed that advancing democracy and implementing democratic reforms are strategically important to the Armenian Government, with consistent efforts planned in this regard.

Additionally, the conversation touched on the ongoing discussions regarding the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty and the border delimitation process. The Prime Minister also presented the Armenian Government’s “Crossroads of Peace” project, which aims to unblock regional transport routes, and reiterated Armenia's firm positions on these topics.
