Armenian MoD Rejects Azerbaijan's Reports of Border Fire as Disinformation
On January 6, at approximately 14:10 local time, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that Armenian armed forces from positions near the Digh settlement in the Gorus region opened fire using small arms on Azerbaijani Army positions in the direction of the Zabukh settlement in the Lachin region.
The Armenian Defense Ministry refuted this claim, stating that the Azerbaijani report does not correspond to reality. The Armenian Defense Ministry also denied an earlier Azerbaijani allegation that on January 5 from 22:00 to 22:10, Armenian forces opened fire on Azerbaijani positions in the southeastern border zone.
Additionally, the Armenian Prime Minister's Office has previously proposed the establishment of a joint Armenia-Azerbaijan mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations and related reports. However, Baku has not yet responded to this proposal. The Armenian Defense Ministry accused Azerbaijan of spreading misinformation and reiterated that the reports regarding alleged Armenian ceasefire violations were baseless.
Notably, the last ceasefire violation on the undemarcated conditional border between the two countries occurred in September 2024.
