Azerbaijan Responds to Armenian Foreign Ministry's Statement on Tensions Along Nagorno-Karabakh

On March 8, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported that the information spread by Azerbaijan's MoD on March 7 is entirely false, does not have and cannot have any factual basis, and does not correspond to reality. "Azerbaijan is trying to divert the international community's attention with such 'noisy revelations,'" the information added. "To divert the attention of the international community from these obvious facts, Azerbaijan has adopted a practice of disinformation and increasing tension, trying to create false information bases for launching new aggression not only against Nagorno-Karabakh but also against the Republic of Armenia. Moreover, to 'justify' this policy, Azerbaijan continues its policy of presenting Armenia in the West as extremely pro-Russian, and in Russia as extremely pro-Western," it said.

On March 9, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported that in the video recorded by the surveillance cameras of the units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and shown by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it is clear that the vehicles of the Armenian armed forces are using the Khankendi-Khalfali-Turssu dirt road for military purposes again.

"In general, from the period of gaining independence, against the norms and principles of international law, those who committed military aggression and mass massacres against the internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan, devastated the occupied cities and hundreds of villages, carried out ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis, expelled hundreds of thousands of people from their native lands, It is absurd that Armenia, which obstructs the missions of international organizations to the region, refers to international law after the liberation of our territories from the occupation in 2020, turns to international organizations, as well as the claim that Azerbaijan is allegedly preparing to carry out 'ethnic cleansing' and 'genocide' against the Armenian residents of the region," it added.

The ministry said, "In addition, it is known that the political leadership of Armenia has admitted that the Armenian forces have not been withdrawn from the territory of Azerbaijan. Also, although it was declared that the forces would be withdrawn in September 2022, it is clear that this has not yet happened. We also remind you that according to paragraph 4 of the statement of November 10, 2020, it is intended to withdraw all Armenian armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, and manipulations in this matter are inadmissible."

"To prevent the policy of aggression and illegal acts of the Armenian side against Azerbaijan, it is necessary to establish a border control checkpoint at the beginning of the Lachin road," the information added.
