Azerbaijan Rising Party Chairman Detained

A fraud charge has been brought against Anar Asadli, the chairman of the Azerbaijan Rising Party. According to the decision of the Narimanov District Court of Baku, a pre-trial detention measure was chosen for him for three months.
The party said that on April 20, Asadli was called to the Main Organized Crime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to clarify a minor matter and was released after 6 hours of detention. On April 21, Asadli was summoned to the mentioned office again, charged with Article 178 (fraud) of the Criminal Code, and taken to court.
Notably, in November 2022, Asadli was banned from leaving the country. The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained this with the complaints of some citizens. According to the statement of the Ministry, Anar Asadli was suspected of embezzling 150,000 US dollars from one citizen and 10,000 US dollars from another by making false promises. Anar Asadli did not accept these accusations. He stated that this is a political order related to the party's activities. Azerbaijan Rising Party was founded in 2020. It was registered with the state a year later.
