Azerbaijan Sends Note of Protest to Iran After Tehran's Flights Along Border

| News, Security, Azerbaijan

On March 11, Abbas Mousavi, Iran's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and was presented with a corresponding note of protest.

The joint statement of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan stated that the Iranian military aircraft flew between the two countries at a distance of 3-5 kilometers from the state border and, in some cases, over the state border.

According to information, on March 11, an Iranian military plane flew continuously along the Azerbaijan-Iran state border from the Zangilan district to the Bilasuvar district and back from 09:44 [local time] to 10:26.

"Contrary to the internationally accepted practice of warning a neighboring state in advance about the approach of military planes to the state border, the Iranian military plane so close to the state border between the two countries and flying over the border line threatens the safety of civil aviation and worsens the relations between the two countries. The flight of a military aircraft for more than half an hour near the liberated territories of Azerbaijan is a provocation and unfriendly behavior towards Azerbaijan. We would like to remind you that the Iranian side conducted large-scale military exercises along the Araz River near the borders of Azerbaijan last year," the document added.

The document stressed that Azerbaijan strongly condemns the Iranian side for such a provocative step and calls on them to provide a reasonable explanation and refrain from such provocative steps in the future.

At the X Global Baku Forum, Gila Gamliel, the Minister of Intelligence of Israel, stated: "Iran represents a threat to the entire Middle East and other countries. Iran brought uranium enrichment to 84%, claiming that this allegedly happened by mistake. But Iran is lying to the IAEA, the international community, and its people. I appeal to all international organizations to look at the pressure on women in Iran. Today in Iran, girls are being poisoned at school, women, girls are being pressured because they want freedom, equality."

After accusations from Baku, Abbas Mousavi, Iran's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, shared photos of Israeli flags that were cut on Twitter and wrote: "Medice, cura te ipsum" ["Doctor, cure yourself"].

Also, it was reported that Azerbaijani lorries and other transport vehicles are denied entry into Iran from Azerbaijan.
