EU, US, UK Officials Visit Georgia to Discuss Sanctions Against Russia

On June 27, EU Sanctions Envoy David O’Sullivan, Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination at the US State Department James O’Brien, and Director General, Economics, Science and Technology at the UK Foreign Office Kumar Iyer, visited Georgia to discuss sanctions against Russia with Georgian officials.

On the same day, Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, welcomed the delegation. He emphasized how important the visit was for fostering collaboration. According to the official statement, the main topics discussed at the conference were the implementation of the financial sanctions imposed on Russia and Georgia's effective work to stop sanctions evasion in close coordination with the US, UK, and EU. According to the press release, the Prime Minister paid close attention to Georgia's unwavering support for Ukraine in both the political and humanitarian spheres.

Afterward, Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili met with EU, US, and UK sanctions authorities. The parties emphasized that the visit would support Georgia's ongoing and close collaboration with the appropriate offices. According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the Minister reiterated Georgia's commitment to upholding the system of financial sanctions on Russia. The visitors provided a positive assessment of the ongoing cooperation with Georgia in enforcing financial sanctions, the document continues. They emphasized their willingness to keep a lively conversation and continue the cooperative work.

Georgia's membership in the European Union was also discussed at the meeting. FM Darchiashvili reaffirmed the nation's steadfast dedication to its European course and the government's will to implement the necessary reforms to move the country closer to EU membership.
