Four Employees of Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan Declared "Persona-non-grata"

On April 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reported that four employees of the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan were declared "persona-non-grata."
According to the information, Seyed Abbas Mousavi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Azerbaijan, was summoned to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"During the meeting, the Iranian ambassador was strongly displeased with the provocative activity shown by his country about Azerbaijan," the report added. "It was brought to the attention of the Iranian ambassador that four employees of the Iranian Embassy were declared "persona-non-grata" (undesirable persons) by the government of Azerbaijan due to their activities that were inconsistent with the diplomatic status and contrary to the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and those persons were sent to their homes within 48 hours. They were asked to leave the territory of Azerbaijan," the information said.
As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, on April 5, 210 MPs of the Iranian parliament condemned the opening of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Israel. They called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran to take diplomatic measures in this regard.
