Pashinyan: Armenia Has No Issues with Russian Military Base
Armenia has no current concerns regarding the presence of the Russian military base in the country, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a press conference. When asked about the possibility of leaving the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the future of Russia’s 102nd military base in Armenia, Pashinyan responded that there is no set timeline for withdrawing from the CSTO, nor are there any issues concerning the military base at this time.
Nikol Pashinyan also mentioned that Armenian border guards have taken over full duties at Zvartnots airport. He explained that Armenia expressed its gratitude to Russia for many years of border guard service at the airport and noted that Armenia can now manage this responsibility independently. Pashinyan emphasized that this shift is not a sign of conflict or opposition but rather a demonstration of partnership and mutual respect. He also acknowledged Russia’s past support along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, stating that Armenia now believes there is no longer a need for that presence.
When asked during a press conference about Armenia’s plans to exit the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Pashinyan stated that Armenia suspended its participation at all levels and that the decision to freeze its membership is sufficient for now. “At this stage, we consider this decision to be enough,” he added.
