Strengthening South American Bonds: Armenia and Argentina's New Chapter

On March 25, the official visit of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan to Argentina began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the General Jose de San Martin Memorial in Buenos Aires. Accompanied by Leopoldo Sahores, Deputy Foreign Minister of Argentina, Ararat Mirzoyan paid respects to the revered historical figure.

In his remarks, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan expressed his gratitude for the esteemed title bestowed upon him and conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the City Legislature of Buenos Aires. He reflected on the longstanding and friendly relations between Armenia and Argentina, emphasizing the historical bonds shared by the two peoples.

Mirzoyan recounted Argentina's pivotal role in providing refuge to Armenians fleeing persecution, highlighting the significant contributions made by the Armenian diaspora to Argentine society. He also acknowledged Argentina's unwavering support for Armenia during challenging times, particularly amid recent conflicts.

Explaining hope for continued cooperation and solidarity, Mirzoyan thanked all present for their warm hospitality.

On the same day, during his official visit to Buenos Aires, Ararat Mirzoyan held a productive meeting with Diana Mondino, the Minister of Foreign Relations, International Trade, and Religion of the Argentine Republic.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the robust political dialogue between Armenia and Argentina, underpinned by the longstanding friendship between their peoples. Minister Mirzoyan underscored Argentina's significance as a key partner for Armenia in South America, highlighting the reciprocal high-level visits as tangible evidence of the strong bilateral ties.

The meeting provided an opportunity to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation in various fields of mutual interest, including trade, economy, high technologies, education, and energy. Both ministers acknowledged the extensive legal framework already in place between their countries and expressed readiness to expand it further to accommodate new areas of collaboration.

Efforts to foster interaction between Armenia's and Argentina's diplomatic academies were also discussed, reflecting a commitment to nurturing bilateral ties at the institutional level.

In the realm of trade and economic relations, the importance of encouraging investment programs to bolster bilateral economic ties was emphasized.

Ministers Mirzoyan and Mondino also recognized the invaluable role of the Armenian community in Argentina as a unique bridge between the two nations, contributing to cultural exchange and fostering closer ties.

The discussion extended to regional security matters, with Minister Mirzoyan providing an update on the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including ongoing negotiations on a draft peace treaty. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the border delimitation process based on the 1991 Declaration of Alma-Ata and underscored adherence to previously reached agreements at the highest levels.

Minister Mirzoyan presented Armenia's "Crossroads of Peace" program in the context of regional transport and economic connectivity, highlighting its potential to stimulate economic development and stability in the region by unlocking regional transport and economic channels.

Afterward, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held fruitful discussions with Fernando Adolfo Iglesias, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations and Religion of the House of Representatives, and Francisco Manuel Paolotron, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations and Religion of the Senate of Argentina.

Both parties underscored the longstanding development of Armenian-Argentine relations marked by mutual trust and understanding. Minister Mirzoyan highlighted Armenia's perspective on Argentina as a dependable partner in South America, expressing Armenia's keen interest in further expanding and deepening bilateral relations across political, economic, cultural, and other spheres.

Mirzoyan also emphasized Armenia's appreciation for Argentina's constructive stance on key issues concerning Armenia and stressed the importance of international actors' support for upholding the principles of international law to deter extremist ambitions and ensure stability in the South Caucasus region.

The discussions emphasized the significant role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing bilateral relations between Armenia and Argentina.

During the meeting, Mirzoyan elaborated on Armenia's efforts towards establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus, reaffirming Armenia's belief in the potential for regional peace through mutual respect for principles such as territorial integrity, border inviolability, and the unblocking of regional transportation routes. Mirzoyan also introduced the "Crossroads of Peace" program to his counterparts, outlining its potential to contribute to regional stability and economic connectivity.

The discussions between Minister Mirzoyan and the Argentine parliamentarians reinforced both nations' commitment to enhancing cooperation and understanding, particularly in areas of mutual interest and regional peace-building efforts.
