Tehran Clarifies Stance on Sovereignty and Regional Transport Collaboration

On January 6, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that Iran supports the expansion of regional transportation cooperation while emphasizing the importance of respecting countries' sovereign rights.

Baghaei also addressed issues related to Iranian trucks facing challenges at the Turkish border due to fuel-related problems. He noted that efforts between Iran and Turkey are underway to resolve the matter, highlighting the importance of maintaining good neighborly relations and ensuring the smooth flow of goods. "A delegation from Iran is expected to visit Turkey soon to discuss the issue in detail," he stated.

Armenian media accused Azerbaijani outlets of misrepresenting Baghaei's comments by linking his statement to the so-called Zangezur corridor. According to Isna, Baghaei's remarks solely referred to the Iranian-Turkish trucking issue and were unrelated to the corridor.

Baghaei reaffirmed Tehran's position on unblocking communication channels in the South Caucasus during the briefing, stating, "Iran's position remains unchanged. We welcome the expansion of cooperation in the transport field, but we emphasize that the sovereign rights of countries must be respected."
